Ornamental Gingers by Orval Love

Orval Love really knows gingers. We learned gingers are one of the largest plant species, their uses vary from medicinal, culinary and aromatic, and they need a high nitrogen fertilizer and frequent fertilizing to get those gorgeous blooms. We were also entertained by a slide show featuring the gingers he grows. Fronica and Anne were the winning recipients of photos from Orval and he also brought 30 ginger plants he had potted for every member to take home. Thank you Orval.
Orval and Mildred Love are pictured above prior to his program.

June Meeting

The Monday night meeting of the Herb Gardeners was the place to be. 6 guests and club members came to hear a wonderful program on Ornamental Gingers presented by Orval Love. Camille conducted a brief business meeting. Several members shared craft items for inspiration for the upcoming Herbal Tea and Fair slated for February 2009. San brought a decorated clay pot filled with herbal sachets and Margaret presented information on how to age paper and making homemade decorated parchment. Delicious refreshments brought by Ancha, San and Margaret were served after the meeting.

Garden Tomatoes

Stephanies' garden tomatoes.

Yummy Food

The pot lucks are always a delicious treat! Cold crisp salads, garden vegetables, homemade bread and fresh blueberry parfaits (the blueberries were just picked this morning); our club members really know how to cook.

June Pot Luck and Pool Party

Herb club members enjoyed a wonderful time at the pot luck and pool party hosted by Stephanie. Elissa demonstrated tea dying using tags and card stock. We are developing craft projects for the Herbal Tea and Fair to be held in February. Those attending the luncheon: Robbynn, Janet, Rosa, Fronica, Camille, Elissa, Stephanie, Natasha, Margaret, San and Ancha. Special guests attending were Jean, Camille's mother-in-law, and London and Evan, Natasha's children. The group picture was shot by London...thank you. The pictures turned out great!
